Founded in 2019 in London by Emad Mostaque and now led from Los Angeles by CEO Prem Akkaraju, Stability AI develops generative models for image, video, audio and 3D. It is best known for Stable Diffusion, the latent diffusion text-to-image line released as open weights, running from Stable Diffusion 1.5 (2022) through SDXL 1.0 (2023) to Stable Diffusion 3.5 (2024) under the Stability AI Community License. Its Stable Audio 3.0 family (May 2026) ships Small and Medium open-weight variants beside a proprietary Large model; only the Stable Diffusion image models appear in this catalog.
